Online Somatic Sessions

What’s in a somatic session

As a fully trained Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner, it is my job to help create an environment that feels safe to do inner work. Somatic work is deeply gratifying and different for everyone. The somatic work I do does not involve touch, rather it involves you connecting to your own body and me helping to guide that process with questions that allow an experience of curiosity and play, even in the spaces of fear. The body stores so much information and wisdom about what is needed to heal and what is stuck, so as you connect internally a lot can happen. We begin the process by first noticing and describing feelings in the body-- sensations like pressure, heat, heaviness, etc. As we get accustomed to going inward, there is an opportunity to develop greater capacity for relaxation and safety, which allows for more access to difficult memories and feelings.

There is a mindfulness to this practice that is developed as you cultivate an ability to tune into yourself more. As I work with you, I develop a greater understanding of your nervous system, how your body handles stress and ways it is stuck in overdrive (high activation, anxiety, anger) or collapse (depression, numbness, no motivation) and how it can begin to restore to its natural balanced state. It is my job to help guide and witness this process and coach you toward staying connected to your body. Often we combine psychotherapy and somatic work in a session, but not always, as somatic work can also be part of future orientation towards achieving goals and developing a greater sense of self. Not only is this deeply rewarding work, but it is strengthening to one’s sense of self and one’s confidence.
